SENSIS model of reducing social isolation of older people with sight loss

Having a visual impairment greatly increases the chance of social isolation, particularly for older people. People over 75 years with a visual impairment are more likely to live alone than their counterparts, and are more likely to report feeling socially isolated (Baker and Winyard, 1998). SENSIS are a sight impairment organisation of Holland who have developed a course specifically designed for older people with sight loss to increase their ability to develop their own social networks and friendships.

I can either offer a one day training course for staff with groupwork skills who are interested in developing this course in their locality or co-facilitate the programme, depending on where you are based. The training is based on the SENSIS model and uses their training pack and programme.
